Can I live in my home during the remodel?

For smaller projects like windows, siding, or door replacements, you can stay in your home. However, for extensive kitchen and bathroom remodels, temporary adjustments may be needed. We work with you to minimize disruptions.

Generally, homeowners can stay in their home during a project.  For additions to a home, it may be necessary at times to vacate the home until the addition is added and the structure is protected from the outside elements. For kitchen renovations, clients can generally live in their home during construction; however, it may be necessary to set up temporary accommodation for cooking and storing food and supplies.

Can I still use my kitchen during the remodel?

Limited use may be possible but expect disruptions. We recommend setting up a temporary kitchen space during the remodel process.

Do I need a permit for my remodel?

Depending on the scope of work, a permit may be required by the governing authority in your area.  Typically, smaller interior projects that don’t involve moving any electrical, plumbing, HVAC, walls, etc. will not require a permit. Large-scale projects (i.e., additions, some re-roofing projects, etc.) will likely require a permit to complete the work.

Do you offer financing options?

Yes, we work with a financing company to help you secure a loan for any home renovation projects.

Do you offer handicap accessible and/or aging in place bathroom remodeling?

Yes! We specialize in walk-in showers, grab bars, wider doorways, and other ADA-compliant upgrades.  Making sure your space is accommodating to your needs is our top priority.  WCI is aging in place certified and ready to update your space.

Do you offer warranties on your work?

Wilderness Construction generally offers an 18-month labor warranty on all of our projects. Roofing projects generally have a warranty that is longer.  Manufacturer warranties apply to all products installed during a project.

How can I make my bathroom more energy-efficient?

We recommend low-flow toilets, LED lighting, water-saving faucets, and energy-efficient ventilation systems to reduce utility costs.

How do I choose the right entry door for my home?

Consider durability, energy efficiency, security, and style. We offer free consultations to help you choose the perfect door.

How do I know if my siding needs to be replaced?

Signs include cracks, warping, peeling paint, mold growth, and higher energy bills due to poor insulation.  While replacing your siding, we can also assess if your home needs more insulation in the walls.  Adding insulation to the exterior of your home before installing the new siding is a great time to add energy efficiency and comfort to your indoor living space.

How long does a typical remodel take?

The timeline depends on the size and complexity of the project…

Projects that require a longer lead time on materials (ie: cabinets, windows, specialty products) will take longer than projects whose materials are generally in stock at local suppliers. Our goal is to get as many materials ordered before starting a project to avoid disrupting the clients’ home life as much as possible.

How long does a window replacement take?

Single window installations take one day, but larger projects may require multiple days or weeks depending on the scope of work.  Our window specialist can give you an estimated timeframe for your project.

How much does a bathroom remodel cost?

Costs typically range depending on the size, materials, and level of customization.  If you are leaving the layout of your bathroom the same, the cost of the remodel will be far less than if you choose to re-work the layout or even add space from another area of your home.

How much does a kitchen remodel cost?

The cost varies based on design choices, materials, and the extent of renovations….

There is no tried and true way to determine a kitchen remodel cost.  There are too many variables to consider; for instance, are you moving plumbing and electrical, are you taking out a wall, demolition of the entire kitchen and starting from scratch.  These scenarios will increase the cost of your remodel.  However, if you are planning on keeping the same layout and just replacing cabinets, countertops, lighting, etc., the cost would be less.  Another determination of cost is the design and material choices you make for your remodel.

How much will my remodel cost

Every project is unique, and costs vary depending on the materials, scope, and labor involved.

At our initial meeting to determine the scope of the project and to get necessary measurements, we compile all the necessary information to produce a quote/proposal for services.  You can then adjust your project expectations depending on the cost and timeline involved, if necessary.

What are the benefits of replacing my windows?

New windows improve energy efficiency, comfort, curb appeal, and security, while also reducing outside noise. New windows can also help with the safety of your home, ensuring they open when you need them too in case of emergency.

How often should I have my roof inspected?

We recommend having your roof inspected at least once a year, preferably in the spring or fall. Regular inspections help identify minor issues before they escalate into costly repairs. Additionally, after severe weather events like storms or heavy winds, it's important to schedule an inspection to check for damage.

What roofing materials do you recommend for my home?

The choice of roofing material depends on factors like your budget, aesthetic preferences, and the structure of your home. Common roofing materials are asphalt shingles, metal roofing, slate, and clay tiles. During our consultation, we'll help you choose the best material that suits your needs and complements your home.

How do I know if I need a roof repair or a full roof replacement?

A roof repair is suitable for isolated issues such as minor leaks or damaged shingles. If your roof is older, has extensive damage, or has reached its lifespan, a full roof replacement may be the better option. Our roofers in Ann Arbor will conduct a thorough inspection and provide you with honest recommendations based on your roof's condition.

What are the signs that my roof needs repairs or replacement?

Common signs that your roof may need repairs or replacement include:

  • Leaks or water stains on the ceiling
  • Missing, cracked, or curling shingles
  • Excessive granule loss from shingles
  • Sagging areas on the roof
  • Signs of mold, moss, or algae growth
  • Visible damage after a storm

If you notice any of these issues, contact us for an assessment.

How long does a typical roof installation take?

The time required for roof installation varies depending on the size and complexity of the project. On average, a roof installation can take anywhere from a day to a week. Factors such as the type of roofing material and weather conditions can influence the duration.
